Community Baboon Sanctuary
In 1987 the Community Baboon Sanctuary was formed
by land owners from Flower's Bank to St. Paul's Bank in
efforts to preserve forest along the Belize River for the
use by the black howler monkey. The gentlemen to the
right, Mr. Young, was one of the founders of the
Community Baboon Sanctuary.
The drive from Belize City is about 30 minutes and we
head through savannah and pine ridge forest. Birds
sighted enroute include the roadside hawk, jabiru and
wood storks, and egrets. This is a great drive since you
also get to see how the people in the countryside live.
Once in Bermuda Landing we will head directly to the
visitor's center where we will meet our local guide. Our
guide will take us on a walk through the village where
we will encounter troops of the black howler monkeys.
Along the way your guide will describe medicinal plants
used by the Creole people and identify any other
wildlife we may encounter.

The Belize Zoo
The Belize Zoo was founded in the 1980s with stars
from a animal documentary that was filmed in Belize.
When the movie was completed many of the animals
could not be returned to the wild so the zoo was
formed. The Belize Zoo has received worldwide
recognition for its design in making the exhibits
resemble the animal's natural habitat. On display are
jaguars, tapirs, scarlet macaws and more. This is a
great experience for animal lovers and families with
small children.
